Message from the Principal

August 25, 2023

Hello Helena Families,

My name is Sherita Fuller, and I am your principal. Words cannot express how humbled and honored I feel to be a member of TEAM HELENA! As my formal introduction, I will tell you a little about my education and personal life. I will then share my hopes and dreams for leading Helena into the next chapter of greatness.

To begin, I graduated from Grundy Senior High School in Grundy, VA. I then went on to get my Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Virginia at Wise. After moving to Person County in 1995, I taught for nine years at North Elementary. During these years, I obtained my Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction through a Person County Cohort program offered by North Carolina Central University. I then served as the Instructional Coach for North Elementary for six years and one year at Oak Lane. During these years, I went back to Central to obtain an add-on to my Master’s in Administration. I served one year as the AP at Oak Grove Elementary in Durham, then returned home to serve one year as AP at Southern Middle School. In 2013, I was named the principal at North End Elementary and have spent the last nine years in that position.

My husband and I have lived in the Timberlake community for the past 28 years. We both grew up in the southwestern region of Virginia in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. We have one son, Joey Fuller, Jr. He is married to Anna Fuller, the 6th-grade science teacher at Southern Middle School. Joey and Anna have blessed my husband and I with a beautiful granddaughter, Rylie Jo. So, for all the grandparents and future grandparents out there, it’s true about what they say; there’s nothing like it in the whole wide world. As a family, we enjoy traveling, attending bluegrass festivals, and spending time together. On an even more personal note, I love to thrift shop, work in my flower garden, and read.

My hopes and dreams for Helena are to continue the passion for teaching and learning that will pave the way to a brighter future. I have had the pleasure of working with
some of the faculty and staff at this point, and I am confident that your children are truly in good hands. These teachers are committed to setting high expectations and helping each child meet their fullest potential.

My office door is always open. You can reach me through email at fullers@person.k12.nc.us or by phone at 336-364-7715. However, please email or call in advance if you would like to sit
down and meet, as I will often be busy observing in classrooms or meeting with teachers to support teaching and learning for the continued growth of our students.

I anticipate that we will have a great year, and I look forward to another great year at Helena!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Sherita Fuller
Principal
