What is the National School Lunch Program? How do I know if my school participates?

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is a food assistance program for eligible students that provides them with free or reduced-price meals through their school. Your child must attend a school that participates in NSLP to be considered for P-EBT. Most public schools participate. Some charter and private schools participate, but some do not. Virtual schools and homeschools are not eligible.

What is summer P-EBT?

Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) is a federally funded, temporary food assistance program that helps families during the COVID-19 public health emergency. Summer P-EBT is an extension of school year 2021-22 benefits. Eligibility requirements for Summer P- EBT are different than the requirements for the school year and are based on guidelines set by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) which simplified P-EBT eligibility requirements for summer. Initial eligibility will be determined based on student participation in free or reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) in May 2022 (last full month of the 2021-22 school year). Students may also become eligible during the summer period if they apply and are approved for the NSLP free or reduced-price meals.
