Samantha Kelly, Board, Dr. Peterson

Samantha Kelly, Exceptional Children’s Resource Teacher at North End Elementary School was named Person County Schools’ Teacher of the Year on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.

Kelly follows Katie Austin, Student Ambassador Teacher at Northern Middle School, in receiving this prestigious honor.  Ms. Kelly has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education from the State University College at Fredonia in Western New York.  In addition to teaching, Ms. Kelly serves on the Leadership Team, School Improvement Team, and MTSS Committee.  Samantha has taught in the Exceptional Children’s Department as a Kindergarten - Fifth Grade Resource Teacher for nine years.

Dr. Melody Wilson, principal of North End Elementary School, stated, “Ms. Kelly serves as an Exceptional Children’s teacher with unparalleled commitment and expertise.  One of her most remarkable qualities is her deep knowledge of each student’s individual goals.  Her classroom operates with remarkable efficiency.  She ensures that every minute is purposefully utilized to maximize learning and growth.  What truly sets her apart is her genuine passion for students.  She not only teaches, but fosters meaningful relationships with each of her students, offering support and guidance both inside and outside of the classroom.  The North End Elementary community couldn’t be more proud to have Samantha represent Person County Schools as the Teacher of the Year!”

School-level winners were nominated by their peers and had to meet the criteria set forth according to state guidelines.  Also nominated were:  Traci Carter at Helena Elementary School, Christy Huff at North Elementary School, Amanda Vernon at Oak Lane Elementary School, Stephanie Hopper at South Elementary School, Danielle Clayton at Stories Creek Elementary School, Paige Mishue at Woodland Elementary School, Rick Baltes at Northern Middle School, Sherry Bailey-Short at Southern Middle School, Jesse Mattos at Person High School, Micki Powell at Person Early College for Innovation & Leadership, and Jennifer Innis at Person County Schools Virtual Academy.
