Congratulations to Dr. Melody Wilson, principal of North End Elementary School, who has been selected as the 2024-2025 Person County Schools Principal of the Year in a program sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and Wells Fargo.
Dr. Wilson began her teaching career in Granville County in 2000 as an elementary teacher where she taught for six years. She then served as an assistant principal at Joe Toler - Oak Hill Elementary School for two years before becoming principal in 2008. Wilson then served as the principal at West Oxford Elementary school for four years. In 2013, she was named Director of Human Resources for Granville County Schools. In 2018 Wilson joined Person County Schools as the principal of Southern Middle School until moving to North End in 2022 where she currently serves.
Dr. Wilson earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. She went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Administration, an Advanced Degree in School Leadership, and a Doctorate in School Leadership, all from North Carolina State University. She is married to her husband Gilbert and they have two sons, Tyler (senior at PHS) and Austin (7th grader at Southern Middle School).

Under Dr. Wilson’s leadership, the students at North End Elementary have shown tremendous growth. She possesses an exceptional ability to inspire both staff and students, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. The community of North End Elementary School and Person County Schools are blessed to have Dr. Wilson as a leader and champion for students.
