School Counselors Make a World of Difference

Mission:

The mission of Person Early College Student Services program is to provide a comprehensive counseling program that supports our students in Career and College preparation, their academic endeavors, their personal, social and emotional growth through Character Education and in partnership with parents, guardians and all members of the school community. The goal is to provide a safe and supportive academic environment both physically and emotionally. We want to inspire our students to be life-long learners, and respectful, responsible and productive citizens.

The Role of the School Counselor

According to the American School Counselor Association, “Today's school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, career and social/emotional development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.”

About the Counselor:

Hello Everyone!

I am thrilled to introduce myself as your new school counselor at the Person Early College for Innovation and Leadership. My name is Martinique Smith, and I am excited to embark on this journey with you all. This is my first year as a school counselor in an early college setting; however, I bring with me eleven years of experience as a middle school counselor.

A little about me: I was born and raised right here in Person County and have lived here my entire life. I am deeply passionate about building strong relationships with my students and helping each one of you reach your full academic, social, and personal potential. My counseling philosophy is student-centered and solution-focused, which means that your needs and goals are at the heart of everything I do.

This year, my goal is to develop a comprehensive school counseling program that supports your academic, personal/social, and career development. Whether you need help navigating your coursework, managing stress, or planning for your future, I am here to assist you every step of the way.

On a personal note, I am happily married to my wonderful husband, Brandon Smith, and we have two beautiful children, Brandon Jr. (9) and McKinlee (3). Outside of school, I enjoy dancing, vacationing, and spending quality time with my family and friends.

I love being a school counselor and am incredibly excited to work with students, parents, staff, and the community to make this school year a successful one. Please feel free to reach out to me anytime – my door is always open.

Looking forward to a fantastic year together!

Warm regards,

Martinique Smith
